Medically known as diabetes mellitus, it is a
nutritional disorder, wherein the blood glucose level is unusually high and
this is diagnosed by the high level of glucose in the urine. Anything above
160mg of blood sugar content per 100 ml of blood is considered as a diabetic
level. There are different types of diabetes, occurring in different ages, but
people in the age group of 40-50 are commonly affected.
- Type 1 diabetes: This is also known as IDDM or
Insulin Dependant Diabetes Mellitus. In this type of diabetes, the body
produces less insulin or stops producing insulin to control the blood
glucose level.
- Type 2 diabetes: In this type of diabetes the body
is not able to use the insulin. This is commonly found in the middle aged
people. This can be controlled through diet and exercise.

- Due to high intake of carbohydrates in the body.

- Try to avoid food containing excess starch in them.
Starch takes a lot time to digest.
- Decrease the intake of oily food in your diet. Avoid
eating outside as their oil has chances of being unhygienic.
- Avoid sugar, caffeine and refined flour.
- Take small meals in regular intervals instead of
large ones, as it can be easily digested and is also good for health.
- Eat more leafy vegetables like spinach and avoid the
fatty foods.
- Eat fruits and dairy products like milk and cheese.
- Eat foods that lower the blood sugar in your body,
such as onions, beans, garlic, tomatoes, etc.
- Reduce the amount of salt in your food. This helps

- Take some mango leaves and soak them in water

mixture of sweet potato leaves with herbal tea or ash gourd. Take 4-5
leaves of sweet potato, with 1 tsp of ash gourd or herbal tea in a glass
of water and boil the mixture. Strain the mixture and drink the tea during
the day. This is very helpful in curing diabetes.
- Curry leaves also prove useful in curing diabetes.
Chew 8-10 curry leaves everyday on an empty stomach. They bring the blood

diabetes. Its seeds help in controlling the blood sugar level.
- Cinnamon not only brings taste to food but also
brings down the sugar level. It is also very effective in curing appetite
loss and acidity.
- Bael leaves have great antibacterial properties.
With a pinch of black pepper, bael extract can be consumed to cure
diabetes.
- Food containing allicin, is very useful in controlling blood sugar level. Garlic is one such food which contains allicin. It helps in the disintegration of the cholesterol in the body.
